Introduction
RainPDF (hereinafter "this app") is an Android PDF toolkit. It converts photos and images into PDF, exports PDF pages as JPEG or PNG, merges, splits, extracts and reorganises pages, compresses documents, adds annotations and signatures, applies watermarks, protects files with a password, reads text with OCR and turns camera captures into PDF.
We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what this app does with your information. By using this app you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
This app does not require an account and we do not collect, upload or sell any personal information. Specifically:
- This app does not require registration or login and does not collect usernames, email addresses or passwords.
- This app does not collect your contacts, messages, calendar, location or health data.
- This app does not read your files in the background. Documents are opened only when you select them through the system file picker, and they are processed on your device.
- We do not operate any server that receives your documents. Your PDF files never leave your device through us.
How We Use Information
Everything you see in the app happens locally on your device:
- Your documents: a selected PDF or image is opened, processed and written back to storage on your device. The result is a new file; your original is never modified.
- Recent files list: the app stores the file name, size, page count and last read page of documents you open, so they can be listed on the Home screen. This list lives in a private database inside the app and can be cleared at any time from Settings.
- Preferences: your theme, language, default page size, output folder and OCR language are stored locally in the app's private settings.
- Temporary files: while a task runs, working copies are written to the app's private cache. They are removed when the task finishes, on the next cold start, by a daily cleanup, and on demand from Settings.
- Password-protected PDFs: a password you type is used only on your device to open that document. It is never stored, logged or transmitted, and the decrypted working copy is deleted as soon as you leave the reader.
App Permissions
This app requests only what the features require, and it never asks for full storage access (no MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE):
- Camera (optional): used only when you start the document scanner. You can use every other feature without granting it.
- Internet and network state: required by the advertising and in-app purchase components, and to download an OCR language model if it is not already bundled.
- Notifications (optional): used only to show progress for long-running tasks.
- File access is handled entirely through the Android Storage Access Framework: you pick the file or the output folder, and the system grants access to exactly that. Saving to the public Download folder does not require any permission on Android 10 and above.
Data Storage and Security
All processing happens on your device. The app creates no cloud copy of your documents and no account is needed to use it.
- The recent files list and your preferences are stored in the app's private storage and are removed when you uninstall the app.
- Temporary working files live in the app's private cache and are cleaned automatically.
- Output files are written to the folder you choose, by default Download/RainPDF.
- Documents you open from other apps are read through a temporary permission that expires with the session.
Third-Party Services
The app integrates a small number of Google components. We do not receive your documents from them, and none of them is given access to your files:
- Google AdMob: shows the banner and the occasional full-screen ad to users who have not purchased the premium version. AdMob may collect your advertising ID and device information for advertising purposes. See the section below for your choices.
- Google Play Billing: processes in-app purchases. Payment details are handled by Google; we never see your card or bank information.
- ML Kit text recognition: performs OCR. Recognition runs on your device; the images you scan are not uploaded to Google.
Advertising and Your Choices
The free version of this app is supported by advertising. The premium version removes all ads.
- On first launch in regions where it is required, a consent dialog (Google User Messaging Platform) lets you choose whether ads may be personalised. You can change your decision at any time from the app's settings.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised advertising, in your device's Google settings.
- Buying the premium version stops all ad requests from the app.
GDPR Compliance
For users in the European Economic Area we declare the following:
- Data controller: the RainPDF developer is the data controller for the limited data described above.
- Legal basis: we process the local data on your device to perform the service you asked for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Advertising-related processing by our advertising partner is based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you may withdraw at any time.
- Your rights: you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to processing, and the right to data portability. Because the app keeps your data on your own device, you can exercise most of these rights directly: clear the recent list and the temporary files in Settings, or uninstall the app.
- International transfers: documents are not transferred anywhere by us. Our advertising partner may process limited device data outside the EEA under the safeguards described in its own privacy policy.
- Complaints: you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Children's Privacy
This app is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will remove it.
Policy Changes
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The current version is always published on this page with the date shown at the top. Material changes will be announced in the app.
